 NAB 2007 Highlights

FX Networks' DVD on TV uses NVIDIA® Quadro® FX 5500 SDI
by PNY to deliver real-time virtual sets
When Film Syndicate needed a real-time virtual set for their weekly movie program which airs on the FX network - DVD on TV –, they turned to virtual studio specialist Chris Mapes, founder and president of State of 8.
Mapes is always looking for innovative ways to deliver exactly what his clients need. For DVD on TV, he knew that executive producer Bryan Johnson wanted to create an interactive 3D DVD-like environment, generated in real-time, without having to resort to costly post-production. The solution the production team came up with includes the use of a repeatable telescopic crane, the Panavision® Technodolly; Brainstorm Multimedia’s virtual set software and the
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5500 SDI by PNY
graphics board.
“We combine the Technodolly’s information, which provides the camera’s viewpoint, with a real-time rendered background. The live video input is played into Brainstorm’s virtual set environment and rendered in real-time - thanks to the speed of the NVIDIA Quadro FX 5500 SDI by PNY graphic board, and then sent right out to tape ready to be aired,” explains Mapes.
